Why Cheltenham is the perfect weekend away

Cheltenham is great for shopping, with all the highstreet favourites and more local and individual stores to tempt you as well, you’re bound to find something you’re looking for. Cheltenham’s main shopping areas are predominantly pedestrianised which makes for a great stress-free space, especially when you’re shopping with kids.

Attractions

There are a number of attractions available to visitors, whilst it may not be for the thrill seeking theme park lovers, if culture is more your thing, Chelterham has some fab attractions. The Wilson – Cheltenham’s Art Gallery & Museum, which is an elegant and stylish building, designed by architects Berman Guedes Stretton, and has something for everybody, whether they are local to the area, or coming to Cheltenham for the first time. With a gallery dedicated to their extensive fine art collection, and a space to discover more about local heroes, it is also home to many events throughout the year. Of course, renowned for it’s horse racing, why not take a visit to the Hall of Fame at Cheltenham racecourse for a spot of sport history. Cheltenham is home to a growing arts, theatre and music scene, with entertainment venues which include Cheltenham Town Hall, the Everyman Theatre, The Playhouse and The Bacon Theatre. Live entertainment takes place in many of Cheltenham’s pubs and music venues throughout the year too.

Family Fun

There are many family friendly attractions within easy reach of Cheltenham, making the town an ideal base to visit places such as Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park, Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, Sudeley Castle, The National Trust’s Chedworth Roman Villa and Prinknash Bird and Deer Park. Further afield

Cheltenham is the perfect base to explore the Cotswolds. Its quintessentially English towns and villages are perfect to explore. On our last visit, Stef took us to Bourton on the Water, which is just under 16 miles away. It has been voted as one the prettiest villages in England. It is home to the Cotswold Motor Museum, Birdland, Cotswold Perfumery, The Cotswold Brewery and The Model Village. Shops and cafes line the pretty main street, with a stream running through. Bourton Vale Equestrian Centre allow you to explore on horseback, suitable for beginners and riders of all levels, and great if you’ve got horse mad little ones.
